Doing important work but it's not getting the recognition it deserves?

Hi, I'm Corrie. I help global health and international development organisations turn complex ideas, research and technical findings into clear, useful communications.

Whether you need strategic direction, stronger content or additional communications capacity, I help busy teams get their communications moving without adding to their workload.

How I can help

I provide practical, flexible communications support to organisations working in global health and international development – clarifying messages, shaping content and creating simple tools and processes that help teams share evidence and influence policy and funding decisions.

I work mainly with busy, technical teams that know communications matters but do not always have the time, capacity or headspace to give it the attention it needs.

Comms strategy & messaging

Clarifying what you want to say, who you need to reach and how communications can support your wider goals.

  • Website and social media content

Practical comms support

Helping busy organisations deliver communications with the time, people and resources they actually have.

  • Ongoing senior communications support
  • Design and social media management
  • Templates, toolkits and upskilling for small teams
Testimonials

What my clients say

Corrie’s contribution has been enormous. She took the time to truly understand our mission, our work, and how we operate. Corrie developed a communications strategy that gave shape and coherence to everything we do.

She helped us find our voice by translating complex research and policy work into messages that resonated with the global health community, academics, policymakers, young people and the public alike. She strengthened our presence across platforms, sharpened how we tell the story of our impact, and built the visibility that opens doors.

Corrie stands out as one of the most effective consultants I’ve worked with. She is exceptionally self-motivated, brings real initiative and clear thinking to everything she does, and has a way of encouraging those around her to raise their game – myself included.

Comms strategy

DTH-Lab was a busy team that recognised the value of comms but didn't have the capacity or expertise to make themselves heard. I was brought in to provide both strategic and practical support to raise their profile and share key findings. Doubled LinkedIn followers in first year and supported a WHO Europe comms campaign on digital impact on youth mental health.

Storytelling
& content

Screenshot of BP4GG end of project animation
WHO TDR (the World Health Organization Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases) initially approached me to research and edit a module on One Health for their Implementation Research toolkit. This led to a follow on commission to research, edit and write a further module on the role of implementation research in climate change and health.
I led the communications compaign to close out the Business Partnerships for Global Goals (BP4GG) programme a UK government initiative uniting multinationals and not-for-profits to drive progress against the UN Global Goals. This included an animation highlighting final results. The campaign was highly commended in the final client review.

About me

I’m Corrie Fairweather-Mills, a communications consultant and trained journalist with 20 years’ experience helping organisations explain complex work clearly.

Based in Edinburgh, UK, I have worked in-house and as a consultant with research organisations, consultancies, not-for-profits, donor agencies and governments across UK, Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia and Oceania. Clients have included UN agencies, EU, UK and Australian governments.

I combine strategic thinking and editorial judgement with hands-on delivery. I am equally comfortable advising senior leaders, shaping an organisation’s messaging, editing a technical report or helping a small team launch a campaign plan on time.

In all my work I bring a positive, collaborative and pragmatic approach. I learn quickly, get to grips with complex subjects and focus on communications that respond to each client’s priorities, challenges and available resources.

No unnecessary jargon. No complicated systems. No communications plans that nobody has the time or capacity to implement.
